In 1980, John L. McIntyre breathed life into Custom Spray Service, Inc. Based his knowledge and the experiences he gained from past jobs, he created a full-service lawn maintenance company that focused on giving his customers excellent service; which they came to expect from this young entrepreneur. John's relationship with his clients came about by doing something simple and maybe even considered old fashion, he earned their trust and loyalty.
All in a Hand Shake
A lot of businesses open their doors and wait for people to come to them. John approached obtaining customers differently. He simply met them at their door. A knock, an introduction, and a handshake allowed John to get to know potential clients. John was forthcoming with them. All he had was an in-home office, a truck, and the drive to succeed. he met them on a personal level where he listened to what they looked for in a service, and then strived to meet their expectations. People became impressed with his honestly and desire to provide an impressionable service, so word of his workmanship spread from neighbor to neighbor and soon the young company was flourishing.
One Step at a Time
Each step John has taken in the last 30 some years to grow his company has paid off. His one man company soon branched into 5 lawn crews, 5 spray trucks and 1 tree crew, totaling 13 employees. with the industrial and commercial side of business growing rapidly, John took another step; he decided to sell the lawn and tree division of his company. In 2001, he started distributing de-ice locally to provide the company with a winter income. The de-ice division of the business is now full time and has sine expanded into new regions. In 2003, John started to provide dust control as another service for his customers. And since 2009, Custom Spray started manufacturing its own liquid de-icer, CACL2, and introduced its own line of salt granular de-icer products in 2012. With two main branches of focus, John decided to split his company into two. Custom Spray Service would continue to do all vegetation applications/management and dust control. Custom Salt Solutions would focus on manufacturing de-ice products and defining its own brand within the industry.
Down to the Grind
Being efficient is only effective when you have a qualified team and equipment to deliver. John pushed the envelope when it came to his spray truck design, software and the technology of his equipment. Taking a rate controller designed for agriculture applications, John tweaked and engineered it creating the first computerized spray truck system of its kind. His team members receive top of the line training and acquire all necessary licenses required to meet the needs of his customers. John didn't stop there, he continued to develop other innovations such as custom spray tip designs, highly efficient application methods, custom built de-ice application systems and providing the first 24/7 liquid de-ice card lock facilities in the area. His approach to projects and jobs keeps him on the cutting edge and a step ahead of his competition.
